Art Activism Project
“A Better T” Project Collaboration
In the spring of 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic and George Floyd Protests held by Black Lives Matter and other activist groups, Terence collaborated with artist mentor and 2019 MacArthur Fellow Mel Chin to produce an image that would promote solidarity between the African American and Asian communities. The characters on the t-shirt design had been carefully researched, as there was no literal translation for “black lives matter”. After careful consideration of how to best capture the spirit and sentiment behind the characters, Mel settled on the characters and design which he tapped Terence Nicholson to hand print by way of silk screen. 32 dozen shirts later, the “Better T” been growing in popularity and proceeds given to the BLM movement.
